Remapping the BMW R1200 GS
The BMW R1200 GS is a great bike and one of the bestselling adventure bikes ever made. However it can be made better with one of our remaps.
As with all our remaps, the maps for the BMW R1200GS are developed completely in house by us right here in the UK. We start by running the standard bike on our dyno and measuring the power output while we are doing the runs we used standalone diagnostic equipment to monitor every aspect of engine function. We monitor and record, Air Fuel Ratio, throttle plate opening, spark timing, injection time, lambda aspect, engine knock as well as other parameters. We will do this at various accelerator twist grip positions and then repeat the whole process for every mode that the bike has. In the case of the BMW it has 4 modes; Road, Enduro, Rain and Dynamic. This takes a lot of time but it does allow us to build up a complete picture of how the factory set the bike up and where we can make improvements.
After analysing the data from the R1200 GS we knew we could make some really good improvements to the ride-ability and power delivery of the bike.
With the finished map we managed to significantly improve the power output and smoothed the delivery at throttle openings up to 80% and even made a slight gain in power from 118bhp to 121bhp (at the back wheel) at full throttle.
