Which A6 engines gain the most?
The C5 A6 shows the full range of results in one generation, because it was sold with three kinds of petrol engine. The petrols without a turbo gain the least: the 3.0 V6 goes from 220 to 233 bhp (+5%). The 2.7T biturbo V6, shared with the C5 allroad, goes from 250 to 290 bhp (+15%), and the smaller 1.8T four-cylinder makes the biggest proportional jump of the three, from 150 to 192 bhp (+28%).
The C6 brought in the supercharged 3.0 TFSI V6, and it responds well: the 286 bhp version goes to 358 bhp (+25%) and the 295 bhp version to 367 bhp (+24%). The C6 2.7 TDI V6 diesel makes a similar step, from 177 to 224 bhp (+26%).
In the C7, the 2.0 TDI at 174 bhp goes to 216 bhp (+24%) and the 1.8 TFSI ultra from 188 to 220 bhp (+17%). The C8’s 40 TDI starts 27 bhp higher than that C7 diesel and gains a smaller share, from 201 to 231 bhp (+14%), while the C8 45 TFSI goes from 241 to 287 bhp (+19%).
A6 generations we cover
The C5 (Typ 4B, 1997–2005) came as a saloon and Avant, with the allroad quattro added in 1999. The allroad is Avant-based with air suspension, and our C5 list covers it separately with the 2.5 TDI V6 diesel and 2.7T petrol. Petrol engines run from the 1.8T to the 2.4 and 3.0 V6s.
The C6 (Typ 4F, 2004–2011) brought the 3.2 FSI V6, the supercharged 3.0 TFSI (290 PS, then 300 PS from the 2008 facelift) and the 2.7 and 3.0 TDI V6 diesels. Its allroad quattro (2006–2011) has five-mode air suspension.
The C7 (Typ 4G, 2010–2018) was built as a saloon and Avant. Its 2.0 TDI went from 177 PS at launch to a 190 PS ultra version in 2014, and a 1.8 TFSI ultra joined the range from 2016 to 2018.
The C8 (Typ 4K, April 2018–2025, sold as model years 2019–2025) includes the 40 TDI, a 204 PS four-cylinder diesel; the 45 TFSI, a 245 PS turbo petrol; and the 50 TDI, a 286 PS V6 diesel.
