Which S5 engines gain the most?

The first-generation S5 was sold with two very different engines, so start by checking which one your car has. It launched in 2007 with a 4.2 FSI V8 (engine code CAUA, 354 PS), and the supercharged 3.0 TFSI V6 (engine codes CAKA and CCBA, 333 PS) replaced it. The dates given for the two engines overlap between 2009 and 2012, so the year alone won’t always tell you which one a car has; the engine code will.

As standard, both engines produce 440 Nm, so the V6 gave up some peak power to the V8 but matched it on torque. The supercharged V6 makes the larger of the two gains in our table, and after a remap it has 498 Nm, 58 Nm more than either engine as standard.

The same CAKA engine code appears in the B8 S4, so if you are weighing up the two cars, the S4 page shows our figures for that version.

S5 generations we cover

Our S5 figures cover the first generation, which ran from November 2007 to November 2016 on the MLB platform. It came in three bodies: the coupe and Sportback (Typ 8T), built at Ingolstadt, and the Cabriolet (Typ 8F), built at Neckarsulm. The S5 launched with the 4.2 FSI V8, offered until 2012, and the supercharged 3.0 TFSI V6 carried the S5 badge from 2009 until the end of the generation.
